Bathroom Vanity Units: Buying and Installation Tips

Looking for a relatively easy way to improve the look of your bathroom without having to do a complicated overhaul to the space?  Get a bathroom vanity unit!  No joke, bathroom vanity units can have your bathroom looking like you did a major renovation, when all you actually have to do is hook up a few plumbing fixtures and secure the unit to the wall and you’re done.

Vanity units for bathroom use are typically comprised of a self-contained cabinet unit that comes with or without a countertop and sink already attached.  Most bathroom vanity units have the counter and sink as part of the unit, but in some cases you can buy the cabinet base separately and then add your own countertop and sink on top.  Many even come with a faucet attached as well.

One great feature of bathroom vanity units is how attractive and unique they can be.  Gone are the days of boring white formica or oak bathroom cabinets with a white counter and matching sink.  Now you can find traditional or contemporary bathroom vanity units that look like a piece of furniture right out of your living room or bedroom.  The units themselves are attractive while still maintaining their functionality.

Bathroom sink vanity units can include glass bowl sinks, stone sinks, granite sinks and other upscale and interesting designs.  In many cases, the sink faucets are included as well, though in others you can either add your own bathroom faucet to the vanity unit itself, or to the wall above the sink (which really makes for a modern and contemporary design!).

You can find small bathroom vanity units made to fit into tight spaces, like powder rooms or other half baths, but you can also find large units that can house multiple sinks, as well as cabinets and shelving.  In fact, if you’re really short on space and are looking for something more unique, you can even find corner bathroom vanity units for sale that will solve your space and storage needs in a very confined space.

When you begin shopping , you will find that there are a wide variety of bathroom vanity unit prices to choose from.  Prices will depend on the size of the unit, the materials used for the cabinetry or shelving unit itself, as well as any attached countertop, sink, or faucets (and whether they are included or not), and the quality of the construction.  If you’re on a very tight budget, you can find some rather cheap bathroom vanity units for sale if you look around, but you’ll probably get what you pay for(although some will look remarkably good for the price).  You can also find units that run well into the thousands of dollars, and have elegant and upscale finishes and designs.  Of course, the vast majority of self contained bathroom vanity units will fall in the middle between the two extremes.

When installing bathroom vanity units, all you usually need to do is make sure the unit is sitting level on the floor, attach a few screws to secure it firmly to the wall, and then hook up the plumbing fixtures.  Most of these units are freestanding, meaning they are not made to fit exactly from wall to wall, so you can simply order them, have them delivered (or pick them up), and place them in any location you want.  Bathroom vanity units are portable, so you can even move them around if you find a better place for them down the road or if you move (don’t forget to disconnect any plumbing first!).

So, if you are looking for an easy way to change the look of your bathroom without a major renovation, consider installing a bathroom vanity unit.  In just an hour or two (not including the time it takes to remove any existing cabinets and plumbing, and assuming you know how to connect the new plumbing fixtures), you can have a stylish and modern bathroom that looks like it stepped off the pages of a magazine.
